Almost Had an Accident…

We were on our way home when suddenly a man riding his motor bike slipped and was out of balance. He was in a high speed and was overtaking a jeepney. He was surprise to see our car approaching and didn’t know what to do. He was thrown in other side of the road, while his bike was on our car’s direction. Good thing, my husband immediately hit the breaks and the man’s bike hit our car a bit. The man on the other hand was hurting but I was glad to see him standing after a few concerned citizens helped him.

My husband approached the man and asked if he was okay. He wasn’t sure if he was okay but he admitted that it was his fault. While inside the car, I can’t help myself but be nervous of what had happened. I can still remember the faces of the people on the streets. There was one woman who was totally covering her eyes when the incident happened.

With all the things that happened today, I am thankful for God’s protection over our lives. I am thankful for nothing serious happened to the man, and thankful that we are all okay.

Lessoned learned: No matter how safe you drive, there were always accidents that may come along your way. The best protection you can have is to pray before going somewhere else.

What Would You Do?

What would you do if you were invited in a children’s party but your child is sick with chicken pox? I’m pretty sure you will choose to stay home rather than getting other children get infected with the virus.

But that wasn’t the case with my friend. Instead she brought her daughter who had chicken pox to the party. The other parents were surprised to see her.

The worst part was when the kids were playing “The Boat is Sinking”. Kids were grouping and hugging each other. The girl with the chicken pox was there hugging the other kids who haven’t had the chicken pox virus yet. I couldn’t help to see  the parents feeling a little bit dismayed with what happened.

Medical experts would advice parents to keep their kids at home especially when they have viral infections. Some would even require isolation so that others won’t be contaminated with the disease.

I don’t know what’s inside my friend’s mind that day. All I can hear about was her daughter really wanted to join the party and she can’t do anything about it. If you were one of the parents in that party, what do you think you would do?

Ostrich Eggs: The Largest of all Eggs

Photobucket

I had the chance to visit one of the famous ostrich farm here in our city, the Philippine Ostrich Farm. I was with my students and we were kind of amazed when we saw a lot of ostriches  in the farm. They were very huge.

One of my students said they looked like big chickens, while the others observed that they look like big birds. Another girl approached me and asked… “Can I sit on the back of the ostrich, just like the one I saw on TV? I smiled and said no. Maybe she was watching a cartoon movie.

Anyway, after viewing the ostriches we went to one area where eggs are being displayed. We were not allowed to carry the eggs but we can touch and feel it. The egg was very huge and it has a very thick shell.

Amazing Facts About Ostrich Eggs:

Ostrich eggs are known to be the largest of all eggs, approximately 6-7 inches in length and 15-18 inches around and has a weight which is approximately 1.4 kilograms . One ostrich egg is equivalent to 24 chicken eggs. Many love to eat  ostrich egg because it contains calcium, phosphorus and vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin E, riboflavin and thiamine and has about 2,000 calories. If you want to eat a hard boiled ostrich egg, it would take about 40 minutes to boil it.

The color of an ostrich egg ranges from pearl white to cream. The shell of the egg is very thick and is used in many different forms of arts and crafts.

It’s Not About the Money

I had a great time with my relatives yesterday at my grandmother’s 83rd birthday celebration. It was like a family reunion. We enjoyed sharing stories and updating ourselves with the latest happenings in their lives and so many other things.

One of my relatives was the focus of our story because she is now very successful with her businesses. Everyone was teasing her that she already has lots of money in  the bank. Although it was true, she still humbly denies it with a loud laughter. As we go on with our chit chats, she told us that she is not having a good night sleep for a long period of time now. She said she has been thinking a lot of things lately and she can no longer sleep at night. I was a bit worried about her. At the back of my mind, I was wondering about the reason of not having a good sleep at night. I was thinking she doesn’t have problems anymore because she already has everything. But I was wrong. Because of so many concerns on her businesses, she’s experiencing sleepless nights for almost a month now.

Thinking about her story, I began to realize that having a good life is not about having a lot of money. In short, money is not everything. Many people thought  when they have everything, they will be the happiest in the world. However, true joy and peace and happiness does not depend on these material things but to the One who is Great and Mighty.
