Yesterday, I was so blessed to be part of the team in blessing backpacks to 1,000 children in Cagayan de Oro City. The backpack giving was initiated by Concord Community Church through Pastor Ralph Garay. The initial plan was to give the backpacks last January as way of helping children who were affected by Typhoon Sendong (Washi). However, as the planning progressed the entire team decided to give the backpacks on May so that it will be timely for the kids to use the bags as well the school supplies in the opening of classes in June. True enough the children as well as the parents were very happy with the backpacks.
My two cousins who were affected by the typhoon also had their own bags. After they received their bags, they can’t help but check all the items inside. While at home they were very happy to put all the things out, and one by one they count it. They had pencils, notebooks, scissors, pencil case, crayons and many others. The backpacks and the school supplies made them very excited to go to school.
I am very happy for the kids who received their bags. I can’t express the joy and excitement in their faces.
To all the people who shared their blessings to pursue this endeavor, thank you so much for your love and generosity. Thank you Concord Community Church for initiating such a wonderful event such as this. It was truly a blessing for all of us here in Cagayan de Oro.
